Alexander McQueen Spring-Summer 2021

Apparently, Sarah Burton thought a lot about the origins of Alexander McQueen when she was preparing the new collection of the House. In any case, this is the first thing that comes to mind when looking at the frames from the lookbook. Next spring, the designer invites us to wear fluffy princess dresses with tutus under coarse "army" boots - and this is a very close to the brand's DNA a sense of contrast.

The final image of the collection is actually the quintessence of this very contrast. The already mentioned shoes in this look are combined with a stunningly beautiful pale pink dress of a clear, even somewhat hypertrophied hourglass silhouette, provided with a rigid corset bodice and a multi-layered asymmetric tulle tutu skirt (I must say, Sarah Burton, like no one else, knows how to work with complex structures). In this contrast, an emphatically romantic dress that looks like a huge marshmallow cloud, and sloppy grunge boots are very much from the spirit of the Alexander McQueen brand. Both the life and the work of its founder Alexander McQueen were full of contradictions and contrasts. In his collections, life and death, beauty and ugliness, male and female, were organically intertwined, and therefore they have always been so attractive and caused such a wave of heated discussions. He managed to hit the viewer for a living, always showing what he did not expect to see. This line and decided to support his successor Sarah Burton - but in her own, softer and more delicate manner. Therefore, all lush dresses were complemented not by stiletto heels, but by boots. And from time to time they alternate with uncompromisingly tailored pantsuits, black leather trench coats and cropped jackets with a sharp shoulder line - things that we are used to associating more with the men's wardrobe. From this, the result is very lively and human - despite all its cinematography. Speaking of cinema. For the first time, instead of the traditional screening, a film directed by Jonathan Glazer was shot for the presentation of the collection. For the first time, not only women's but also men's things appeared in it - something new for the House of Alexander McQueen. The video was filmed in London - the hometown of the brand, where its design studio is located - and where Lee Alexander McQueen himself once began his career. And this is again about returning to roots and origins - literally and figuratively.
