The course is designed specifically for the widest possible audience. It is also suitable for those who want to understand what contemporary art is, why the very concept of “art” has changed so much over the past 150 years and continues to change. But it will also be of interest to those who are looking for answers to their questions in order to feel more confident at exhibitions, for those who want to formulate their own attitude to contemporary art without the dictates of museums. We wanted to reveal the history of the development of contemporary art in an accessible, easy and fun way. Each lesson is divided into two stages - first, the lecture part goes through, then it turns into the practical (at the same time the discussion part). During the lecture, we analyze a new direction in art, and in practice we try to create our own work inspired by this direction. Our practices act both as evening art therapy after a long day and as an extremely effective way to personally experience the process of creating a work and feel the work of the studied artist. The course includes 20 lessons and presents the history of the development of art from Impressionism to the present day. Of course, it is impossible to talk about all the artists, so we singled out those who, in our opinion, really contributed to changing the very concept of art, took a step forward and changed the artistic environment. We analyze not only the artistic component, but also the philosophical, sociological and political background, thereby creating a voluminous understanding of the process of art formation.

Course "Art Codes: Workshop"

The course was invented for those who want to more accurately formulate their own opinion about objects of art, learn not only to look at the works, but also to analyze them, to express their own opinion. We try to create a pleasant and friendly atmosphere where you can discuss all the topics that interest you in art. The course consists of lecture and discussion sessions in the Garage and discussion sessions at current exhibitions in Moscow. We select them each time individually for a specific course, in order to focus not only on a set of permanent exhibitions, but also on the current Moscow art scene. In the classroom, we analyze the basic art history concepts of the analysis of works, and during exits to the museum we try to apply them in practice. Although we use examples from the entire history of world art, everything is not telling a story, but, on the contrary,we try to compare or contrast works from different eras and styles in order to analyze what techniques passed from one type of art to another, what parallels can be found between, say, early Byzantine art and Malevich, and so on. We focus on the ability of our listeners to be full-fledged participants in the discussion, to hear and understand everyone's opinion.

The course will be useful to anyone interested in drawing as the basis for self-expression on paper. For those who want not to sketch, but to draw their impressions. Each lesson of the course is evenly divided into theory and practice, but one is impossible without the other. Throughout the lesson, we constantly communicate, I show different techniques, jointly discuss materials and their properties, but in the practical part a lot of new information and questions always appear. Each separate stage of the practical work is also discussed with the participants, because in theory a hand is a hand, but in practice it is an extension of the hand. I wanted to come up with a course that would inspire anyone who loves to draw and invent. When developing the course, we focused on the development of individual creative skills and on the understanding of techniques in the visual arts, and not on teaching only one technique or another. However, my goal as a teacher, I always set the desire of the participants to continue to implement their plans after its completion.

Films and books on the topic:

Pollock with Ed Harris, or a documentary about Francis Bacon directed by David Hinton. From books - "Composition in Painting" in two volumes by Nikolai Volkov.

Course “Architecture. The art of seeing "

Curator: Vladimir Yuzbashev

The course is suitable for everyone who wants to understand architecture, understand how it works, know what the criteria for the quality of architecture are. Also, the course will be very important for those who want to change their current profession and try themselves in architecture or design. In general, for everyone who is going to collaborate with architects and designers and would like to speak the same language with them. Architecture is a material thing, therefore, in order to understand it, it is not enough to listen to even the best lecture, you need to “try” it with your hands and eyes: draw a line, sketch a diagram, make a model. In our course, we not only focus on storytelling and images, but we have also developed several unique hands-on trainings. They just allow you to feel the architecture, create and plan space, understand how the architect thinks. You don't need any special skills. The competencies that we all received in kindergarten are enough. The course is taught by professional architects. However, it is important for us to explain not to fellow architects how our profession works, but to everyone who wishes. We immediately decided that we would not retell the story, but would explain the essence. Therefore, the course consists of several lectures and practical sessions dedicated to a particular topical issue or aspect. We give practical advice, skills and even instructions on, for example, how to perceive buildings, what to look for when examining monuments or choosing an architect.how our profession is arranged, and to everyone.
