On International Ballet Day, the most talked about Russian dancer Sergei Polunin and Olympic champion Elena Ilinykh showed their ballet "Rasputin" exclusively on YouTube.

Grigory Rasputin is one of the most mysterious and controversial figures in Russian history. The life and circumstances of his death to this day do not leave anyone indifferent. Having made his way from a simple peasant of the Tobolsk province to one of the most influential people in the Russian Empire on the eve of its collapse, during his lifetime Rasputin turned into a myth, which in the public consciousness was endowed with demonic properties.

“The distinctive features of the human person are difficult. I needed to feel Rasputin with the help of choreography, to find his attractive sides thanks to intuition, - this is how Polunin himself described the process of comprehending the image of one of the most mysterious figures in Russian history.

Choreographer Yuka Oishi created the ballet Rasputin especially for the season of Polunin's performances at the famous London Palladium theater. Her Rasputin is both an outsider and a monster, and at the same time a healer, a person endowed with superpowers.

“This is a story about a person with incredible charisma, strength and power,” she explains. - Some considered Rasputin a saint, others - a devil. But for me people never divide only into good and bad: when I looked at black-and-white archive photographs, I tried to imagine what these heroes really were - in life, in color”.

The ballet will be available for viewing for only 48 hours. Hurry up!
