Very often in the supermarket we pass products that really deserve attention. One of these is cauliflower. This cruciferous vegetable is a storehouse of healthy carbohydrates, fiber, antioxidants, vitamins, potassium, calcium, and iron. Here's why we should all eat cauliflower and how to cook it properly.

What is the benefit?

Stops inflammation. The antioxidants in cauliflower strengthen cell walls to help protect them from damage and prevent oxidative stress. This prevents weakening of the immune system and reduces the risk of developing chronic diseases.

Regulates blood pressure. Sulforaphane, a compound found in cauliflower, plays a critical role in the normalization of blood pressure. In addition, it helps to strengthen the walls of blood vessels and prevent cardiovascular diseases.

Strengthens bones. Cauliflower is unusually rich in vitamin K, which is responsible for the firmness of bones, improves blood clotting and inhibits calcification of blood vessels, making them more elastic.

Strengthens the immune system. A serving of cauliflower contains the daily requirement of vitamin C (several times more than in citrus fruits), which increases the body's resistance to viruses, prevents the development of inflammatory processes and stimulates the body's own antibodies.

Promotes weight loss. Cauliflower, like all vegetables, is mostly carbohydrate. However, it is one of the favorite foods of nutritionists due to its low calorie content and high fiber and vitamin content. It is a great alternative to potatoes, rice, and pasta.

How to cook cauliflower?

Cauliflower can be mashed. Simply steam the buds with herbs, black pepper and a tablespoon of olive oil. With a minimum of effort, you will have a tasty, nutritious meal with far fewer calories than, for example, a potato counterpart.

If mashed potatoes are not to your taste, fry whole buds in a little olive oil, sprinkle with fresh or dried herbs. Such a dish can be a great dinner, because cauliflower has a low glycemic index, so it will not provoke spikes in blood sugar.

Cauliflower makes a pizza base! To do this, mix the inflorescence puree with an egg and a pinch of salt, form a base and bake it for 6-8 minutes. After that, lay out any filling and bake for another 20 minutes. This is a great healthy alternative to your favorite unhealthy treat.

Plus, cauliflower can be an ingredient in your vegetable smoothie. It will give the drink a creamy texture and a sweet taste.
