Video: Parisians Named Their Favorite Films About Their City That Best Convey Its Atmosphere
Shot from the series "Emily in Paris"
In early October, Netflix released Emily in Paris, directed by the legendary Sex and the City, Darren Star. The main character, played by Lily Collins, moves from Chicago to Paris to pursue a career as a marketer, and is faced with the turbulent Parisian life. The costumes for the project were designed by Patricia Field herself - the creator of the iconic images of Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte. However, the series has already been criticized for its stereotypes about the French and the protagonist's outdated wardrobe.
Still from the movie "Julie and Julia: Cooking recipe for happiness"
The release of the already scandalous series was the reason for the study of Babbel: they asked 38 thousand Parisians about their favorite films and TV shows, which most accurately depict their hometown and its inhabitants. Among the best English-language films were "Midnight in Paris" 2011 and the cartoon "Ratatouille" 2007. Despite the hate in the direction of "Emily in Paris", the series came in third place. The films “Aristocrats” and “Julie and Julia: Preparing Happiness by Prescription” round out the five leaders. According to the study, only two percent of Parisians believe they have never seen an English-language movie or TV show that accurately reflects the atmosphere of their city.
The best pictures about Paris in French, according to the Parisians themselves, are "Paris, I love you" and "Amelie". They also noted the films "Hate", "Call my agent!" and "1 + 1".
