Video: Vienna Holidays
The decisive role in a journey is often not played by the destination itself (be it a city or an island), but by the way you look at it. The famous hotelier Florian Weizer invites us to admire the sunrises over the Austrian capital while lying in an Art Nouveau cast-iron bathtub, and gaze at the fabulous Viennese squares from the windows of a rare Jaguar. Note that Hans Lauda, the head of production at Veitscher Magnesitwerke, which was located at the current address of the Hotel Grand Ferdinand, and the grandfather of the Austrian world champion in Formula 1 class Niki Lauda, once drove around in this car.
Each of the 188 rooms of the Hotel Grand Ferdinand is thought out to the smallest detail: folding shutters made of rare white wood, ceramic light switches, leather mirror frames in the style of the French modernist architect Jacques Adne, graceful curves of the headboards … Even without leaving the room, you can feel the flavor of the majestic Austrian capital Cities. The hotel building, dating back to the 1950s, has a sandstone and black granite façade and a red marble lobby. Previously, this place housed a palace of the 9th century, which was destroyed during the war.
The creators of the hotel paid special attention to gastronomic pleasures: The Grand Ferdinand Restaurant with a mix of traditional and modern cuisine, Gulasch & Champagne with snacks and light dishes, and the Grand Étage, reminiscent of a closed salon of the late 19th century, are open for guests. The latter is notable for a panoramic terrace where you can find a bar, a swimming pool, an open fireplace and a delightful view of St. Stephen's Cathedral and the Ringstrasse.
A pleasant surprise awaits all guests of the Hotel Grand Ferdinand who booked rooms in November and January and February 2016 in honor of two events: the opening of the hotel and the 150th anniversary of the Ringstrasse boulevard, which is traditionally celebrated in Vienna all year round. Accommodation in any room category will be almost a third cheaper, and access to the Grand Étage will be an additional compliment.
