For several weeks now, forest fires have been raging in Siberia and the Far East of our country: the flames have spread to an area of almost three million hectares. Emergency situations have been declared in 5 out of 11 Russian regions on fire.

The natural disaster attracted the attention of not only many Russians, but also Leonardo DiCaprio. The Hollywood actor, who is a frequent advocate of the environment, posted on his Instagram page a video created by journalists from The Guardian, which talks about Siberia, Greenland and Alaska on fire. The caption to the video reads: “The Arctic Circle is suffocating from an unprecedented number of forest fires, which were the last straw of the natural crisis. Gigantic plazas in Greenland, Siberia and Alaska are burning, and a cloud of smog can be seen from space. The World Meteorological Organization has calculated that this catastrophe released as much carbon dioxide into the atmosphere in a month as the whole of Sweden produces in a year."

Many Russian-speaking Internet users thanked the actor for publishing and drawing attention to the natural disaster.
