The question of what to eat for dinner arises before us almost every day. Dinner is just as important a meal as breakfast and lunch and should not be neglected. However, it is important to remember that not all foods are good for eating before bed. An improper meal can cause stomach and intestinal discomfort and pain, which can lead to restless sleep and even nightmares. Below you will find a list of foods that are completely unsuitable for an evening meal.

  • Fresh vegetables

“But what about vegetable salad?” You might say. The thing is that the stereotype that you need to eat vegetable salad for dinner is a huge misconception, enshrined in movies, books and millions of fitness blogger accounts. the amount of fiber (and at other times of the day it's just wonderful), the stomach has to make a lot of effort to digest it. And when you fall asleep, your internal organs also go into "sleep mode" - they continue to work, but less intensively. With the digestion of raw vegetables your body will have problems, and you will have a lot of uncomfortable sensations that will disturb your sleep.

  • Red meat

Red meat in any form is not worth eating at night, and it's not a matter of calories at all. Red meat is high in tyrosine, which can help increase blood adrenaline levels. Therefore, it is best to eat it in the morning: by the evening, the adrenaline level will return to normal and you can sleep peacefully. White poultry or lean fish are more suitable as a light protein component of the dinner.

  • Spicy food

Those who cannot imagine their life without spicy food should still refuse it a few hours before bedtime. Capsaicin (a substance that makes food spicy), when it gets on the mucous membranes, be it the mouth or stomach, irritates it and causes blood flow (in the case of the stomach, there is also abundant secretion of gastric juice, which can cause heartburn). All these unpleasant sensations, appearing during sleep, can cause nightmares. Dreams are what worries our subconscious most of all, and the feeling of a burning stomach will clearly disturb it. So your favorite Mexican restaurant is more for lunch than dinner.

  • Fatty foods

We are talking about unsaturated (healthy) fats, because saturated ones should not be eaten, regardless of the time of day. Yes, we are talking about olive oil, nuts, avocados, fatty fish and other healthy foods. The benefits of these products are really huge, but they should be stopped at least 4 hours before bedtime. Here the situation is approximately the same with raw vegetables: the body needs a lot of energy to assimilate fats, and if it already falls asleep, then the digestion process is inhibited.
