Video: Why Elizabeth II Celebrates Her Birthday Twice A Year
Did you know that Elizabeth II celebrates her birthday twice a year? And you shouldn't suspect the British queen of self-interest: of course, this tradition did not appear for the sake of more gifts and congratulations. We will tell you what is the reason.
The current reigning Queen of Great Britain was born on April 21, 1926, yesterday she turned 93 years old, on which we heartily congratulate her again. Elizabeth II spends this day without lavish celebrations, but with relatives and friends, in a narrow family circle. For example, yesterday the royal birthday girl, along with Kate Middleton, Prince William and other relatives, attended a church service in honor of Easter.
But the whole country celebrates the official holiday in June - on the second Saturday of the month. This custom is more than 250 years old, and it appeared thanks to King George II in 1748. The monarch did not want to arrange celebrations on his birthday, November 9, fearing that it would be cold and rainy, and moved them to summer, when the weather is much more suitable for festivities. Since then, the Trooping the Color parade in honor of monarchs has been held in Great Britain, with over 1,400 military men, 400 musicians and 200 horses taking part.
