Three-time Oscar winner, actress Meryl Streep is in a special position this year: she headed the panel of judges at the 66th Berlin Film Festival, which opened on the eve of the German capital. And immediately I felt all the delights of the new position: “It's nice to be the boss,” she said jokingly, introducing the jury members to the journalists. From 11 to 21 February, they will see 23 films from the competition program (note that only 18 of them will compete for the coveted prizes - gold and silver bears), as well as other films included in the festival program - about 400 of them will be shown in total.

The first film at the Berlinale was the Coen brothers' new comedy Long Live Caesar! The directors managed to take a lot of awards at other film awards, but not the prizes of the Berlinale, and nevertheless their work took part in the screening program more than once: in 1998, the Coens showed "The Big Lebowski" here, in 2011 - "Iron Grip". Berlinale director Dieter Kosslick considers the new Coens' film featuring George Clooney, Channing Tatum and Scarlett Johansson to be an ideal start to the festival, and Meryl Streep, Tilda Swinton, Tony Garrn and other celebrities could see this last evening.

Russian films do not participate in the competition, but "Elixir" directed by Daniil Zinchenko was included in the "Forum

Meryl Streep, who has not read anything before the screenings, assures: “to see something fresh and watch a movie without prejudice is extraordinary”. As long as the jury is using the valuable insight into the work and putting aside the brochures at its request, we can follow their example whenever we want: one of the best actresses in Hollywood knows what she's talking about.
