The starting point for the curators of the new London exhibition Painting the Modern Garden: Monet to Matisse was the painting of the main French impressionist: Monet's early floral still life of 1864 opens the chronicle of "floristic" art, which is conducted until the 1920s. It especially noted his "Water Lilies" and "The Artist's Garden at Giverny", as well as the works of his contemporaries-impressionists: Renoir, Cézanne, Pissarro …, Matisse, Klimt and Klee to see admiration for them. For these and many other artists, the garden gave new freedoms and opportunities: it was possible to explore the surrounding world, dedicating your paintings to flowers, ponds and cultivated "oases", endlessly. And Monet, in his attempts to depict all the shades of the garden, turned out to be one of the most successful: he has so many paintings on this topic that every exhibition with his participation, even a century later, turns out to be fresh and impressive.

Stroll through the garden of over 120 outstanding works of art in London from 30 January to 20 April 2016.
