It is interesting that initially the idea of creating the Cannes Film Festival was born out of rivalry with Italy: then the Venice Film Festival was taking place for several years already, and French Education Minister Jean Zay was sure that his country needed an analogue of this event. The first Cannes Film Awards were supposed to go to their owners back in 1939, but due to the Second World War, the festival was canceled. And only 7 years later, the French government again returned to the once abandoned idea.

As a result, the Cannes Festival has bypassed the Venice Festival in terms of mention and popularity: today it is attended by a huge number of celebrities. However, revising archival photographs from the ceremonies of the last century is no less interesting than studying current photo reports. Especially bright and provocative outlets, of course, were in the 90s: then Nicole Kidman and Sophie Marceau showed slender legs in dresses with super-deep cutouts, Elizabeth Hurley, Sharon Stone and Monica Bellucci delighted the audience with seductive cleavage, and especially daring stars paraded along the red carpet in "naked" dresses (for example, Sigourney Weaver). We have collected 15 of the most spectacular looks from the 90s, which could easily be repeated today.
