The opening film of the 70th Cannes Film Festival was "The Ghosts of Ismael" by Arnaud Deplechin. One of the main roles in the film went to Marion Cotillard, a favorite of the public on both sides of the French border. Bazaar.ru met with the actress in Cannes and asked about her new role, work routine, the latest look from the red carpet and more.

About Carlotta from The Ghosts of Ismael

“My heroine lives in the present moment, does not plan anything and accepts life as it is. She wants to sleep with men - and she sleeps, because at the moment she needs intimacy. She walks past the station and decides to take a train, finding herself at the end somewhere in India married to another, not yet divorced from her first husband. This can only happen to those who live not in the past and the future, but exclusively in the present."

Working with Charlotte Gainsbourg

“It's amazing that I just now met Charlotte, although I have been watching her all my life. It seems to me that it was because of her that I decided to become an actress. So I was struck by her irrepressible energy, her unusual biography - childhood with famous parents, early film career. And also the coolness with which Charlotte perceives everything that happens around. Our screen duet seemed to me very poetic, much more interesting and erotic than Ismael's novels with his women. I would like to film more with women. Until now, most of my film partners have been men."

About the image from the red carpet

“I never wanted to be associated with fashion, but over time I realized that haute couture is an art that is created by real artists through numerous creative searches. I prefer Dior - the Dior woman has mysticism and poetry. These features are close to me. Naturalness and delicacy occupy an important place in the makeup of this brand. My stylist created an image that showed me exactly, but from my very best side."

About the daily routine

“I almost never have free time when I'm filming. The whole day goes by as if on an automatic: wake up at the alarm clock, rehearsal or shooting, return to the hotel, sleep and start the next day. If time appears, then I always try to read something."

About reading

“Very often I read about health and sports, although I don’t get to practice. I am not fond of sports and can not even bring myself to do yoga. The only thing I like is dancing. For a shy person like me, dancing can be a great form of expression."

About the environment

“Sometimes I think about my life and feel deep gratitude. It is not a matter of course to act in films - only a small percentage of those who want to have a chance to get on the big screen. If I had not become an actress, I would have chosen a profession related to environmental protection. Our family has always paid a lot of attention to this topic, and we were accustomed to sorting garbage. Of course, I alone cannot change the world, but the responsibility lies with each member of our society."
